Our short film “Folders” has been selected to be screened all over the UK as part of a selection of the Shetland Arts project, Hansel of Film 2012.

Having started at Shetland in June 10th, the 15th stop of the reel will be at the Watershed, July 31st, 18h.

The reel will then keep going until September 7th, when it should be back to Shetland after visiting 24 different places.

We’re delighted to host ‘A Hansel of Film - Shetland to Southampton and Back’, a relay of screenings of short films made by the public in the Olympic Nations and Regions. A selection of films from the Bristol Encounters 0117 FIlm Challenge will provide Bristol’s 30 minute contribution to the evening’s screening. Between June 10th and September 7, the films are being relayed between 21 venues by ‘runners’ (that is, creative and energetic individuals who will employ whatever means of transport they can devise to get the films to the right venue at the right time!). Joanna Beard of Bearded Gnomes - winners of the 0117 Challenge with ‘Wind’ - has been appointed as the runner to relay these films to their next destination, The Scala in Prestatyn.

Acclaimed film critic Mark Kermode and film historian Linda Ruth Williams, patrons of the project, will be here to introduce the programme!

You can enjoy this brilliantly varied programme of short films for free - please book your tickets in advance at Box Office on 0117 927 5100 and collect your tickets at least 20 minutes before the screening starts.

You can read more about the Bristol Encounters 0117 Hours Film Competition here and even have a look at the other films as well.   =)

Synopsis

Today, our everyday activities are mostly dependent on the smooth funcioning of the new communication technologies. This project depicts five stealthy characters engaging in a pervasive game played around the city. The main intention of the creative process was to use misdirection in order to trick the viewer by arousing suspicion and curiosity. Carefully chosen popular and recognisable Bristol landmarks are in tune with the activities usually experienced within those sights, forming the setting for ‘The Game’. An important aspect of the project was to incorporate urban sports into the script as those are inseparable from the shared experience of Bristol street life. This short film takes the viewer into an interactive journey between reality and virtual world, all set within Bristol scenery.

Bristol Encounters 0117 Hour Film Challenge 2012

To celebrate the arrival of the Olympic Torch this May in Bristol, local filmmakers were invited to create quality short films in just 117 hours based in and focused on Sports, Games and Play in the city.

The aim of the event was to promote Bristol as a filming and sporting location. From 19 May, filmmakers were challenged to make a short film up to three minutes long. Each film had to contain some elements of the three themes that are the core of the M Shed museum but with the overall theme of Sport, Games and Play.

Bristol People - consider the activities past and present that make Bristol, Bristol.
Bristol Places - focus on the physical and dynamic city, the ways that people have shaped and experienced the city.
Bristol Life - explore people’s shared experiences in the city

The finished films forms part of the city’s memory, and joined the M Shed museum collections -  they are now available to view by visitors.
